An application-specific version of AMETEK Land’s cutting-edge NIR-B thermal imaging camera, Near Infrared Borescope (NIR-B) Glass creates detailed, live radiometric images that accurately measure temperatures inside of a glass melt furnace.
A significant improvement over traditional manual methods of furnace monitoring, NIR-B continuously measures temperatures across a high-resolution 324,000-pixel image - giving real-time monitoring that ensures high product quality, helps detect furnace structural damage, and improves melt tank efficiency.
Using our proven, short-wavelength NIR thermal imaging technology, the camera connects to a Windows PC running dedicated LIPS NIR processing software. This provides accurate data analysis, along with automated alarms and control for 24/7 monitoring.
Optimised for measuring high temperatures between 1000 – 1800 °C (1832 – 3272 °F), NIR-B Glass is suitable for glass industry applications, including: float glass, container glass, borosilicate glass and fibre glass melt furnaces.
NO MORE MANUAL MONITORING
Shooting an optical profile may take several hours to complete, are not continuous and unreliable due to user error, while visual cameras cannot provide temperature readings. By continuously monitoring optical profiles and any point within the image, NIR-B Glass enables furnace optimization and alarms to be set to detect air and glass leaks that affect the efficiency of the furnace.
Continuous, high-resolution measurement ensures real-time batch monitoring, flame optimisation and the data required to improve energy efficiency and maximise pull rates without degrading the refractory lifetime. Areas of Interest (AOI) can be user defined, while a digital input function enables measurement of port arch temperatures at the moment of reversal.

Traditional thermal imagers require large openings in the refractory wall to enable viewing of the critical area. NIR-B Glass just needs a small diameter hole to accommodate the 90° field-of-view wide angle lens tip, minimising process disruption.
SVA PNEUMATIC AUTO-RETRACT SYSTEMDesigned to auto-retract and protect the thermal imager from damage by overheating in the event of loss of water flow, air pressure, electricity supply or high borescope tip temperature alarm. The system has an air reservoir (accumulator) to ensure full retraction in the event of loss
